Dr. Sofia Ahmed, our Can-SOLVE CKD Sex and Gender Lead, was invited to speak in Ottawa at the Parliamentary reception on Women’s Health: The Case for a Sex and Gender-Based Analysis. She presented her research regarding the biological, psychological and social factors in women’s health and their respective effects on women’s health outcomes. As one of Canada’s leading experts in sex and gender research for people living with or at risk of kidney disease, she also spoke about the need for incorporating sex and gender considerations into research, with emphasis on cardiorenal research, to improve the health of Canadians.
Dr. Ahmed works in an advisory capacity to provide support to Can-SOLVE CKD research projects and ensure that the network increases its capacity to incorporate sex and gender analysis. The Can-SOLVE CKD Network applauds Dr. Ahmed for her work in expanding our knowledge of why sex and gender matter in health research, and in applying this information to policy and practice, leading to better health outcomes for all.
